Project Rebirth
A downloadable game for Windows
NOTE: It is highly recommended you play Project Rebirth with a controller. The .zip download includes a README with controls and tips.
BUILD 0.22:
A new enemy type has been added to the game! The Reaper wields a makeshift sickle in each hand, and very much enjoys using them. As opposed to enforcers being slow but sturdy, reapers are aggressive and quick on their feet. They will close the distance quickly and bombard you with quick attacks.
This update also includes awesome new tracks by talented composer Bautista Jacobo. You'll immediately notice the difference when booting up the game, going into combat, and entering Shop rooms.
- New enemy type (Reaper): Reapers have a very high movement speed and fast attacks. They have their own launchers, and can even enter a counter stance, delivering a devastating counter if they are attacked in this state.
- New music tracks: The prior music track (made by yours truly) has been replaced by the work of an actual composer. First is the combat track, with different variations depending on whether you're in a battle or the map screen and how high your combat rating is. Second is the shop track, which plays when you enter any shop.
- Enforcers have had their maximum hit points reduced by a moderate amount.
- The Blade has had it's attack speed increased to the level of a prior patch, as I felt it flowed better than the "nerfed" version. In the future I will be looking at adjusting the speed of the Gauntlet heavy attacks, so that it can maintain the niche of being the speedy weapon while the blade can have it's current fast pace.
- Blade XXY finisher has had it's animation speed changed to be consistent with other attacks.
- Changed the hit sounds of certain Hammer attacks so that hitting multiple enemies doesn't result in an overlap of very loud impacts.
- Enemies will now be pushed back if they are hit in the middle of an animation but not interrupted.
- Chakram gadget has had it's damage significantly reduced across all tiers.
- Enemies now rotate towards the player according to their rotation speed. Previously they would instantaneously face the player whenever able, creating jerky movement when finishing a big attack.
- Adjusted aerial blade attacks so that they are less prone to targeting grounded enemies.
- Fixed an issue where the continue button in the shop was harder to click as it was being obscured by invisible UI elements.
- Fixed being able to purchase weapons from the shop even if you did not have enough scrap.
This is an early build of my game, Project Rebirth. As this is an in-progress project, there is bound to be all sorts of bugs and jankiness, and many assets are placeholders to be replaced in future updates. With the disclaimers out of the way, go ahead and give it a shot!
CONTROLS (XBOX CONTROLLER / MOUSE AND KEYBOARD):
Move: Left Stick / WASD
Look: Right Stick / Mouse

Heavy Attack: Y / Right Click
Weapon Art 1: RB / Q
Weapon Art 2: RT / E
Gadget: B / F
Select Blade: D-Pad Left / 2
Select Gauntlets: D-Pad Up / 3
TIPS:
- Both weapons have a light attack combo. Performing a heavy attack after a light attack results in a unique finisher depending on how far you are in the combo (does not apply to aerial combos).
- Dashing right before an enemy's attack lands will negate any damage and is considered a precision evade.
- If a red ring appears around an enemy when they attack, the attack cannot be negated with a precision evade. It must be avoided entirely, either by calculated dashing and/or jumping.
- You can dash at any point during your own attacks. Use this to avoid damage or follow up big hits. If you dash in the middle of a light attack combo, you can continue the combo from the same point after the dash.
- Jumping also cancels your attacks, and can be used to reach enemies that you have just launched.
- If you have purchased another weapon from the merchant, you can switch to and from it at any point in a battle. Swapping mid combo will cancel any attack you are performing and switch to the desired weapon, which can open up more combo possibilities.
- Performing feats in battle, such as killing multiple enemies quickly for example, will boost your style ranking. Finishing a battle with a high style ranking increases the chance that any rewards of that battle will be of a higher tier!
- Bottomless pits will instantly kill any enemies that fall into them, making them a good way to dispose of tough enemies that you are comboing. When you fall into a bottomless pit, you do not die but will respawn, losing a chunk of health in the process.
- If none of the rewards after a battle look good to you, you can skip them and take some scraps to spend later at the merchant instead.
- After you finish a run, whether you win or lose, you'll earn some materials to spend on upgrades in the loadout screen. Currently, all upgrades are lost when closing the game.
